The Chancellor announced in the Budget 2011 the introduction of a carbon price floor from 1 April 2013. This is the first step to wider reform of the electricity market.
Today the Government sets out its response to the consultation.
The consultation document Carbon price floor: support and certainty for low-carbon investment set out the Government’s proposal to provide greater support and certainty to the price of carbon in the power sector to encourage investment in low-carbon electricity generation.

During the consultation period, the Government received over 150 responses from energy suppliers, energy users, consultants, academics, trade groups and consumer representatives. Officials also held a stakeholder workshop at HM Treasury and met a wide range of interested organisations and individuals during the consultation period.
