Defined Benefit (DB) technical group

At the Defined Benefit (DB) conference on 19th January, we announced our intention to convene a technical DB group to discuss further technical details of how an age-related factors (ARFs) valuation approach could be implemented. We are holding rooms from 9am on Friday 29th January and Friday 12th February, but are keen to understand where the key areas of expertise and interest are before finalising precisely how long the sessions will be and what will be covered.

This group will discuss areas such as: more technical detail on the pros and cons of one- and two-way ARFs scales; how to revalue the previous year's pension in the ARFs methodology; how to proceed when the deemed contribution is lower than the employee contribution; and individuals with more than one NPA.

The sessions will assume full knowledge of the consultation document, building on the explanatory presentations in the DB conference - therefore, we are looking for a small group with a high level of pensions expertise to engage in a focused discussion. Because of space constraints, we may need to restrict the number of attendees.

We would be grateful if you could confirm by Tuesday 26th January if you are interested in being a part of this group by emailing pensionstaxconsultation@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk. As part of this, please let us know what your particular area of expertise is and the areas you are particularly interested in.
