THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PUBLICLY FUNDED BASIC RESEARCH AND ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE

A SPRU Review

HM TREASURY

Understanding the relationship between publicly funded basic research and economic performance is important, given the considerable size of public expenditure in this area. This report reviews and assesses the academic literature on that relationship. The study was commissioned by HM Treasury and carried out by a team of researchers at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex.

The report has been placed here in PDF format for you to download and read.
