Recognised Investment Exchanges and Clearing Houses

Recognition as an investment exchange or clearing house under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 enables the body concerned to carry out investment business in the UK. The statutory body with overall responsibility for recognition is the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

In order to become (and remain) recognised a body has to meet the recognition requirements set out in secondary legislation. The recognition requirements cover amongst other things, the maintenance of appropriate financial resources, proper monitoring and enforcement, the promotion and maintenance of standards and safeguards for investors. The recognition requirements can be found on the HMSO website.

The currently Recognised Investment Exchanges (including Recognised Overseas Investment Exchanges) are listed on the FSA website .
