Gift Aid consultation

The Government has published the summary of responses to the Gift Aid consultation. The Government’s Gift Aid consultation is examining measures to drive up charitable giving through Gift Aid. The consultation closed on 30th September following input from over 300 people and a diverse range of organisations.

Next steps

Following publication of the summary of responses, the Treasury will now look in detail at all the areas raised through the consultation. The consultation events, written and online submissions covered a wide range of areas and we now have a much better picture of the sectors concerns and ideas. However, there are some areas where the consultation could benefit from further clarification of the sector’s views and the Government will hold a series of follow-up meetings on these issues early in the new year. These will involve members of the third sector, as well as Government officials. Further details are set out below.

Summary of consultation responses

Further detail of follow-up meetings

To get a clearer understanding of sector needs on some of the issues raised in the consultation, two groups will be established for a series of follow-up meetings in January and February. One group will look further at what guidance, tools and awareness-raising measures could help increase the take-up of Gift Aid while the other will look at what targeted support would help smaller charities to access and administer Gift Aid schemes. Meetings will be held in London and will involve members of the third sector, as well as Government officials. If you are interested in being involved in a group on guidance, tools and awareness or on small charities, please email us on giftaid-consultation@hm-treasury.gsi.gov.uk, specifying which of the groups you would like to join and giving your name, organisation and contact details and. Please note, places are limited as groups will be kept small to ensure focused discussion.
