Information relating to the development of monetary policy in the late 1970s and in the 1981 Budget.

The information released in the PDF files concerns deliberations on the 1981 Budget as they relate to monetary policy and selected fiscal policy issues, and the development of monetary policy in the late 1970s. This includes the discussion of targets, monetary growth, technical issues and foreign monetary policy. It also includes information on HM Treasury’s interaction with the Bank of England. Some of the papers were sensitive at the time but we now assess that, with the passage of time, the public interest lies in making them public.
