Support for parents: the best start for children

Support for parents: the best start for children takes stock of the significant progress the Government has made since 1997 in improving outcomes for children and young people. Against this backdrop, it considers how the Government can do more to build on this progress, and reach those who have not benefited equally from improvements so far. The document announces measures that develop existing services further, and new measures to drive services more at preventing poor outcomes from arising in the first place.

Looking ahead, Support for parents: the best start for children takes account of the more complex lives that many families live today and the potential new challenges that they face. In order to ensure that cycles of disadvantage are not perpetuated, it highlights the need moving forward to respond to these challenges and paves the way to continuing the dialogue with families and other stakeholders to assess and prepare for their needs and the future.
