IMF surveillance of every major economy is carried out primarily through annual consultations between Fund staff and member Governments and central banks. These consultations are known as Article IV consultations, as they form part of the IMF’s Articles of agreement. The resulting reports are discussed at the IMF’s Executive Board. The IMF’s concluding statement for the UK’s 2010 Article IV consultation is reproduced below.
